Blue Monday

Another Blue Monday has arrived and it may be for many the hardest they’ve had for some years, but blue as a colour is worthy of our attention in its own right.

“The day ends.
The night falls.
And in between…
there is the blue hour."

An extract from The Blue Hour by Isabelle Simler - a stunning illustrated book celebrating nature's deceptively dominant, but in fact rarest colour blue. In the living world beneath our red-ravenous atmosphere, blue is the rarest colour. We may live on a seemingly blue planet, that is reinforced by the numerous shades of blue we see reflected in deep water, but there is no naturally occurring true blue pigment in nature. In consequence, only a slender portion of plants bloom in blue and an even more negligible number of animals are bedecked with it, all having to perform various tricks with chemistry and the physics of light, some having evolved astonishing triumphs of structural geometry to render themselves blue. This is why this rare and beautiful hue, should be savoured for its calmness and tranquility in these tumultuous times. Have a happy Blue Monday if you can. #bluemonday #thecolourblue #sailboatcollageart #seascape
