Just Plain Dotty

I had a very enjoyable Monday afternoon this week (baring the bang to my head!) visiting Pydar Gallery & Studios. I was there to meet up with their newest resident, Helen Chandler in her studio.

The studios are tucked away behind Lush in Peoples Palace just off Pydar Street in Truro (just opposite TKmaxx). Its a very relax mix of art gallery with working artist studios all contained in a delightful (if not a little low ceilinged) listed building. If you're ever in Truro it's well worth a visit.

Helens studio is on the first floor and there she has been busy over her sewing machine coming up with some lovely new creations for various Christmas fairs and private commissions. She's a very talented lady and you can follow her story on her blog: http://helenfchandler.wordpress.com/2013/10/

Her newest idea is a simply lovely one, to take children's artwork and recreate it in stitch. The example above was one of her first samples she did, to see if she could translate these line drawings into thread, Helen was so pleased with the result she made it up into a cushion.

Then came Dotty - a moment of embellishment that has given Helen a name for these charming thread drawings. So if you have a hidden treasure that is all but forgotten in a drawer, maybe its time it saw the light of day again and joined the magical world of make-believe that is created in a little studio room tucked away in the heart of Truro.
