Paper-cutting art

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Jan PieÅ„kowski this weekend. His beautiful Meg and Mog books brought me so much joy as a child and in later years I learnt how clever he was with paper-cutting and shadow work. His work was often inspired by his Polish childhood and experiences as a wartime refugee. His interest in paper cutting stemmed from his time in an air raid shelter in Warsaw, where a soldier had kept him amused by cutting newspapers into shapes for him. Proving that a childhood spent with a pair of scissors in your hand is never time wasted. Funnily enough I’ve just competed some paper-cuts  for some window designs at work.  #papercut #paperart #sillhouette
