Slow Stitching

I find January a slow month, while I long for spring to emerge from the grip of winter.

So what better time to try some 'slow stitching' and to appreciate the pleasures to be had from slowing down. This movement is all about the process over the product and taking time to enjoy the journey and reconnect with the traditions of hand sewing - there is no finish line.

I'm joining some fellow stitchers for a workshop on Wednesday that aims to reteach us to approach sewing in a more mindful and contemplative way, spending time in the moment and embracing a more environmental and sustainable ways to create beautiful objects.

I've found a number of beautiful books on the subject, many of which are available from our local library. I'm hoping this workshop will inform my collage work.
