My personal highlights were meeting the very talented Sophie Carter who has been shortlisted for the Artist and Illustrators Magazine Artist of the Year 2019 award. Her landscape painting on linen canvas are so effervescent. She builds up delicate layers of paint that culminate into the most moody and looming stormy skies. I wonder though how her and fellow studio member Sarah Cooling get any work done with such a extraordinary view from their window. I loved Sarah's Porcelain and brought a few pieces for a friend.
We were then treated to the mastery of Adrian Holmes Japanese woodblock Print studio, it was wonderful to be able to chat to him about his craft.
We ended our exploration in the studios of illustrator Esther Connon, her graphite illustration work is enchanting and her picture books are little monochrome treasures.
Then finally in the studio of Kerry Harding who was very inspiring and it was so interesting to hear her talk about her work and her process.
