I love nature and find being out in it vastness awe inspiring, which is why a stroll on the beach is my best solution for busting the Monday Blues. The classic awe-inspiring stimuli reminds people of the vastness of nature: tall evergreens or majestic waterfalls. However, I equally love the very small stimuli if you will, the smile of a new born baby or out in nature the pretty wall flowers that can cling to a cliff face or on a wind swept moor. Witnessing such fragility in nature makes you feel an inner strength that anything might be accomplishable that transcends any particular faith, or lack of faith, and inspires awe in us all.
In fact new research has shown that awe is good for us and for society. When people experience awe - looking up at a majestic sequoia, for example they become more altruistic and cooperative. They are less preoccupied by the trials of daily life.
Awe’s most visible psychological effect is to shrink our egos, our sense of our own importance - so find something to get awe-struck over this week and feed your inner joy!
