Carol Bynoth - Inspired by the Cornish Landscape

'I paint in watercolour on silk and then use free-machine embroidery
over some or all of the painting -
making each painting an original.
I have been creating these pictures for many years.
Moving to Cornwall gave me new inspiration -
the coastline, the countryside and the gardens -
there is such wonderful subject matter here.'
Carol Bynoth

I recently came across the intricate work of another fellow Cornish artist Carol Bynoth that captivated me, much as the landscape down here tends too!

I love to see how other artist interpret the same views and to learn from the different techniques and mark making they use. The stitch work she uses appears very simple, but when built up in layers it perfectly captures the rugged coastline against the painted shore. Her work can often be seen at the Lander Gallery off Lemon Street.
