Library Wall Hanging

My friend Andrea and I had a productive day last week and started our squares for a wall hanging the Library have asked Material Girls to create for one of the meeting rooms. I've packed my square with a lot of different images, while others have chosen to demonstrate a textiles technique. My idea was to try and depict what the library means to me, where do I start!

Since 2010, I've been involved with library as a volunteer and a member of the library board that was set up when the Library was renovated thanks to the Big Lottery Fund. Last year a merry band of us set about creating a library garden in the space that had been part of the staff car park see the pictures.

I had the idea that I should try and depict all the activities I am involved in at the library on my square. Then I thought it would be nice if they grew out from an open book. There will be a mug in the middle of the book/e-reader and the wool will be the steam coming off the tea (liquid wisdom) that then creates the garden and the thread for the sewing (representing Material Girls). I suppose my thinking was that from books all things can grow (including self), but that even though books are very important, the library has a lot more to offer people than just books alone. Some of the materials in the square I made in my textiles lessons at the library, like the felt and the paper. I've now got to work into the image with hand stitching - I'll show you some more when its done.

Got Easter cards to get back to now!
