I'm the worlds best Over Thinker so when I saw this image on Pinterest the other day it struck a chord. The problem with over thinking is that it's so time consuming and energy zapping, I'm trying to give it up for 2013.
If you're someone who spends a lot of time “in your own head” mulling over things to the nth degree, you may think you’re alone. You’re not… Not by a long shot! Here is an extract from an article I found online I hope it helps - just don't spend too much of the day thinking about it will you!
Over thinking is a natural part of life for many of us, even when we’re not aware we’re doing it. More women (57%) find themselves over thinking than men (43%), which is a significant difference. This means the majority of women are over thinkers, and the majority of over thinkers are women.
Over thinking can occur as a consequence of a decision that needs to be made, big or small, and is typically exacerbated in stressful situations. It’s not limited to decision making however, as it can also rear it’s ugly head whenever something has the ability to cause any level of anxiety or worry.
It’s the proverbial thing that “keeps you up at night” and stems from an actual or perceived lack of control over some aspect of life. With a lack of control comes a feeling of helplessness. Over thinking is frequently the direct result. The worst over thinkers actually spend time over thinking seemingly meaningless things to the point that they’ve spent more time thinking about the thing than the time it would have taken to address it completely. What a waste of time and energy!
- COMMIT to a project that maps to your goals.
- DISTRACT yourself.
- Enforce a time LIMIT to your thinking.
- Turn over thinking into a next ACTION in a project plan.
- Realize that being PERFECT isn’t possible.
- Work through that feeling of FEAR - The most important one for over thinkers is to stop projecting the worst of what could happen.
- Think about the BIG picture.
