The Monday Muse
Aims to get your week off to an inspirational start!

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing" - Helen Keller

Not quite a firework! This picture was taken at the 2006 City of Lights parade in Truro. It was a revolving globe made from willow and tissue paper and was like you might imagine a prehistoric glitter ball to be. The Quote has been one of my favourites since I was at school, I like to think it means we should remain open to all possibilities. I thought it appropriate for my new venture, you certainly never know where life will take you.

On the thought of not playing it safe, I am reminded of a family story about fireworks. My Dad, like myself is not a natural risk taker and we don't much like loud noises come to think. When we were young, probably against all his better judgement he promised to set off some fireworks in our back garden. It was a very simple affair and the banger was placed in a milk bottle and us children ushered away to view the spectacle from the safety of the house. We lived at the time in a modern building (1970's) and the windows had small vents above them, which on this occasion had been left open. We settled down at the window and watched Dad carefully light the explosive and retreat. Then quite unexpectedly the milk bottle in the grass shifted and the trajectory of the firework carefully planned by my Dad, changed. Of course you should never return to a lite firework, so my Dad stood powerlessly as he watched the firework not only hurtle towards the house, but quite inexplicably pass through the vents above the window, singeing the net curtain as it passed through and landing on the carpet. Luckily it was a very feeble affair and all the stunned spectators in the room were not harmed. I can't imagine how my Dad felt as he rushed into the house to survey the damage. Life can certainly throw you a curve ball from time to time, however careful you may think you're being. Needless to say we never had anymore home displays on the 5th November.

Have a fun & safe Bonfire Night if you live in the UK.
