Happiness at the end of the line

Well you'll all be pleased to know that my quest draws to a close with only a week to go until my big day (just to be clear!!) 😉

As with all good quests they should involve a journey and mine today took me westwards to the end of the line. If I ever write a autobiography I plan to call it 'happiness at the end of the line'.

It was with great perplexity that some in the north wondered why we chose to uproot from Lincoln and head to remote Cornwall, declaring (quite rightly) it to be at the 'end of the line'. I get for some that the remoteness is not a draw, but for me it's part of the appeal. I never expected that having made my decision to relocate that my parents seemingly settled in the north west would follow us down and choose to retire literally at the end of the line. For Penzance is definitely that, it's also not far from the most southerly or westerly points of Britain and I assure you one can be deliriously happy down here, especially on a sunny afternoon in June.

My reason for visiting as well as spending some one on one time with my folks was to swim in the newly reopened lido. However, we were greeted by closed gates due to unforeseen circumstances (which is becoming a bit of an unwritten theme of my 40to40 experiences). But this journey to 40 is all about embracing change and the unexpected and I equally enjoyed my guilt free chat over a cuppa with my mum followed by a stroll along the prom. Then we wandered home through Morab Gardens, I am reminded of the Tolkien quote now 'Not all those who wander are lost'. When we got back to their garden we found their golden anniversary rose had bloomed just in time for my last day with them in my 30's.

Travelling home on the train past my grandmothers and great grandfathers houses in Redruth, I felt very ground and very much at home. Next stop for me and the aged p's will be the Headland Hotel on the 10th June, can't wait. Xx
