"The Celts say Heaven and Earth are only ever three feet apart, if we could but see. The term for this liminal space where Heaven and Earth are so close together that the spiritual and natural worlds intersect is Thin Space. Thin Space describes the place where the veil between worlds is thin and we feel the presence of the Divine. Thin Space can be found in sacred sites, temples and shines but also in wild and remote places in nature. When we move into Thin Space we become aware of transcendence. The energy shifts eyesight and hearing become keen and the trappings of daily life slip away."
The
summer before he died, my Grandpa went on a small (and very slow) pilgrimage up
St Agnes Beacon. When he reached the top he exclaimed that this was where he
planned to return on the Day of Resurrection. In life he never did return to
the county of his birth, but I like to think that should such a day exist that
all my Cornish Ancestors will be there to greet me. I can see why he thought of
it, as from the top of St Agnes Beacon you get such commanding views 360 of mid
Cornwall and all the mines that his family helped to engineer, including Carn
Brea which we climbed as children.
I am
also a great believer in the saying 'a feather appears when an angel is near',
so imagine my delight when I got into work just after I started my #40to40
quest to find a lovely white feather outside my office door. I scooped it up
and have been carrying it in my pocket ever since, but today I thought it was
time for it to take flight....
